A two-year certificate program which introduces students to the field of Ḥadith​ methodological principles, Ḥadith​​ criticism (the evaluation and authentication of Ḥadith​) and the field of Ḥadith​ literature.

Admission Requirements: No prior knowledge of Hadith is required.
Certificate Requirements: The successful completion of four courses in four terms (two years).
Tuition: $150 per term
Timing: ​Every Saturday from 3:00 pm to 4:30 PM, starting from September 10th, 2022 
Instructor: Dr. Mohammad Iqbal al-Nadvi (​Ph.D. - Umm Al-Qurā; ālimiyyah - Nadwatul ‘Ulamā)

Term 1: ​​Introduction and Compilation of Ḥadīth​

  • Science of Hadith:
    • Definitions and importance of Hadith
    • Terminologies of Hadith.  
  • History of Compilation of Hadith:
    • In the era of the Prophet (pbuh)
    • In the time of Sahaba
    • In the time Tabioon and Tābiʿī -Taiboon
    • In the time of Saheeh – Third Century Hijri
  • Early Collection of Hadith Literature
    • Saheefa, Juzz etc.
  • Relation of Hadith and Fiqh.     

Term 2: Ulūm al-Ḥadīth​

  • Text and Chains of Hadith
  • Classifications of Hadith
    • According to number of narrators: Āhād and Mashhūr etc.
    • According to muntaha of sanad: Qudsi, Marfūʻ, Mursal etc.
    • According to strength: Ṣaḥīḥ, Hasan, Da‘īf etc.​​
  • Classification of Narrators / Rijal
    • Ways of Narration: Samaa, Tahammul, Ijazah etc.
    • Title of Narrators: Imam, Hāfiẓ, Reliable, Abandoned etc.
  • Criticism on Narrators
  • Famous chains of Hadith Narrations
  • Fiqh al-Hadith
  • Naskh and Mansūkhin Hadith.

Term 3: ​Muhaddithun and Books of Ḥadīth​

  • Muwaṭṭa Imam Malik
  • Musannaf Abdur Razzaq and Ibn Abi Shaybah
  • Musnad Imam Ahmad
  • Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī
  • Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim
  • Sunan at-Tirmidhī
  • Sunan Abī Dāwūd
  • Sunan Ibn Mājah
  • Sunan an-Nasā’ī
  • Other books of Hadith, and their classifications  

Term 4: ​​Study of Selected Ḥadīth​ from the Kutub al-Sittah

  • Validating Text and Chains
  • Study of Contradictions and Resolves
  • Case studies
  • Contribution of contemporary scholars of Hadith
  • Importance of Hadith in our times
