The high school Islamic studies program is a two-year program (four terms) which provides high school students with a firm understanding of Islam to prepare them for the intellectual challenges they will face later on in life.

When: Every Sunday | Level 1: 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM  and Level 2: 1 PM to 3 PM
Fall Term: Sep 13, 2020 - Jan 17, 2021 | Winter Term: Feb 21, 2021 – Jun 6, 2021
Tuition: $25 registration and $100 per term

​Course 1: Faith for Life - Aqeedah

The course will provide students with the essentials of the theological foundations of Islam to get to know and improve their relationship with Allah. Students will engage with topics like monotheism, the pillars of Faith, and the nature of human beings.

​Course 2: Qur'anic Guidance & Gems of Hadith

The integrated course will provide students with an overview of the sciences of the Qur’an and the preservation and compilation of Hadith. It explains the importance of the Qur'an and Sunnah and its role in Islamic life. It will engage with the translation and Tafseer of the Qur'an alongside Hadiths and showcase their relevance to a believer.

​Course 3: Beacons of the Path - Seerah and Islamic History

This course will take students on a journey through an inspiring account of the blessed life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the blessed lives of the four rightly-guided caliphs, and the golden era of Islamic civilization all the way until the colonial and post-colonial period.

​Course 4: Fiqh for Living

A course covering the fundamentals of Fiqh every Muslim should know to ensure students are well-grounded in particulars of ritual purity, prayer, fasting, as well as the guidelines to live an ethical lifestyle.

Instructors:

Behije Noka, M. ED
​Behije Noka is an Educator, a counsellor and a spiritual care provider who works mainly with Refugee Women. Behije holds an MEd in Adult Education and Community Development from the University of Toronto. She focuses on the importance of Spirituality/Religion in educating and counselling the forcefully displaced refugees. Behije has been a program facilitator of many Muslim Study Groups for 15 years focusing on "Qur'anic Lessons for Life" and is currently the instructor of a weekly program for women and teenage girls at Al Falah Islamic Centre in Oakville. Behije is also a valued member of the Interfaith Council of Halton and serves on its Education Committee. She has contributed significantly to this committee by helping to organize inter-faith summer camps. Furthermore, she is a speaker along with other faith group representatives for several high schools in the Halton Region on "Faces of Faith" and "Strengths in Diversity.
Mokhtar Noka, MSs, MA
​Mokhtar Noka is a research analyst at Sheridan College in the field of Institutional Research.  He has worked previously at Brock University in the same area. He holds a Master's Degree in Economics and Quantitative Methods from the University of Tunis (Tunisia) and a degree in Sociology from the University of Duisburg (Germany).

Br. Mokhtar studied Islamic sciences from scholars at the Ez-Zitouna University (Tunis, Tunisia). He was the Founder of the "Islamic Economy Research Forum" at the University of Tunis, where he also taught a course on the Fiqh of Transactions. He has also led a circle of Islamic Economics in the MSA at the University of Duisburg. He has received specialized intensive training in Islamic Economics from the Markfield Institute of Higher Education (Leicester, UK). He has participated in international conferences in Islamic Economics and Finance. Br. Mokhtar is currently instructing weekly "Qur'an Lessons" for children and youth at Al Falah Islamic Centre.
Shaham Farooq, MSc
​Shaham Farooq is a graduate of the University of Toronto where he studied engineering science and has volunteered in various teaching roles within the Muslim community. He organizes weekly discussion groups for young Muslim adults and is a data scientist by profession.
​Yusra Rizwan, MIRHR
​Yusra Rizwan is a commerce graduate from McMaster University and has a Master's degree in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the University of Toronto. She currently works as the HR Manager at Islamic Relief Canada, an international disaster relief and humanitarian aid agency.
​Uzma Aleem, B. ED
